FAQ Answers
What does the

participate in the Challenge though there is
no limit to the number of in-school teams. The Challenge
Kit includes:

make 2 cars - CO2 cartridges, balsa
blanks, wheels, axles, decals

Does the
Challenge fee include participation in
provincial and national challenge events?
The fee authorizes your team to be a
participant in provincial (if applicable)
and national challenge events. It does not
include any required conference registration
fees that may be charged at these events.
Teams should seek sponsors to assist with
the additional costs associated with such
events.
What if I can bring
some, but not all, of the team members to
the Challenge event?
Try to involve as many team members
as possible for the design of your car, the
oral presentation, and display. Your team
receives more points for having three to six
team members.
How are the cars
raced? Are they computer activated or
manually activated?
Cars will be fired automatically,
three times, during time trials. The team
will then select a “driver” to fire the car,
three times, manually during the reaction
time race.
Will the time
trials be just one race or multiple races?
Time trials will consist of three
automatically fired races; your team’s
fastest race time will be used for
determining points. Reaction time races will
consist of three manually fired races;
again, your team’s fastest race time will be
used for determining points.
How may the car be
“finished”?
The rules are intended for you not
to make the car or remove any major
thickness of wood by hand. Your design and
the CNC mill should remove most of the wood.
The only hand finishing allowed is to remove
the milling ridges.
Is the Denford CNC
machine the only machine that can be used to
mill F1 cars?
Any CNC machine may be used. Also,
any balsa block may be used, as well as any
3-D CAD software. |

Solid Edge Racecar
Tutorial
The Solid Edge racecar
tutorial is designed to enable students and teachers to
model a simple F1 car using the Solid Edge V14 software.
With a little more practice, far more complicated
race-winning designs can be achieved. The Solid Edge
Part file (see F1 Template .par format file below) is
used to create a 3D Solid that is then ready to be
manufactured. The full document runs to 21 pages,
including full illustrations and screenshots.
